Spinning Yarns

Spinning Yarns

Populated by wildlife personifying human traits, these whimsical tall tales reflect the artist's unease with mankind’s relationship to the environment and tackle subjects ranging from war and peace to consumerism, politics, and our society’s growing reliance on modern technology and media.

Abstract Impressionism

Abstract Impressionism

When injuries from an old automobile accident resurfaced, Mark lost the use of his right hand and arm for extended periods of time requiring multiple surgeries. Looking for a light in the darkness, he began painting with his left-hand creating abstract, gridded images where color and light rise to the forefront. These tapestry-like forms suggest images of the ocean or land bathed in luminosity. After regaining the use of his dominant hand he has continued to pursue these abstracted works in various media.

Wandering

Wandering

Artwork inspired by the bayous, beaches, and woods Mark has roamed since childhood throughout Texas. Underlying these paintings is his deep love for dramatic light, vibrant color, and thick, textured surfaces with expressive brushwork.
